New Nottingham city centre site selected for E.ON office relocation

April 26, 2010

Energy company E.ON has today (MON) announced it has reached an agreement with developer Miller Birch for a new building in Nottingham city centre to accommodate a relocation of staff currently based at Newland House.

E.ON, one of Nottinghamshire’s largest employers, has agreed to take a lease on a 105,000 sq ft nine-storey building at the Guildhall site on the corner of Burton and North Church streets, with construction due to be completed in early 2012.

David Bird, Customer Service Director for E.ON’s retail business, said: “Following a pretty lengthy search, we’re delighted to have secured a suitable location for our Nottingham city centre teams.

“Subject to planning approval, the building will be fitted out and ready for us to move into by June 2012, when our lease at Newland House expires.

“We have incorporated sustainable design principles, energy efficiency and green technologies to provide a first-class workplace for our staff to continue our commitment to providing a high level of customer service.”

Mark Bielby, Development Director at Miller Birch, said: “We’re delighted to be working with E.ON and Nottingham City Council to deliver this important new facility.

“We have worked closely with E.ON on a joint planning application to ensure we can deliver a sustainable building at the Guildhall site. This will be the greenest building ever constructed in Nottingham with a BREEAM excellent rating and an Energy Performance Certificate rating of ‘A’.

“The development will form part of this important new business quarter and will drive regeneration of the larger site and serve to maintain the level of economic activity once the Council has relocated to Loxley House.

“The building, designed by local award winning architect Maber, will be iconic and will become a landmark of which the people of Nottingham will be justifiably proud.”

A planning application is being lodged with Nottingham City Council.

E.ON employs around 6,600 people in Nottinghamshire, at a variety of customer service and power generation sites.
