Miller Developments submits plans for Fort William scheme

June 23, 2010

Miller Developments has submitted a planning application to The Highland Council to develop a £50m mixed use project in Fort William, Scotland.

The 105 acre site at Blar Mhor/Corpach Moss has been allocated in the new West Highland and Islands Local Plan for mixed use development including retail, community uses, business, and leisure.

Along with a new supermarket and retail park, Miller Developments is hoping to develop a relocated Belford Hospital (to include a much-needed helicopter landing facility), a new Gaelic primary school, an all-weather sports pitch and a combined police & ambulance headquarters at the site. Subject to approval, work is expected to start in the Spring of 2011.

David Milloy, Miller Developments’ joint managing director, says: “Our masterplan is designed to give the town a new District Centre that pulls together existing uses such as the Health Centre and High School, with complimentary new facilities such as the hospital and primary school.

During the pre-application consultation process with local residents, it was made clear that the proposed retail facilities are also badly needed as a huge number of Lochaber residents are currently being forced to undertake a 4 hour round trip to Inverness and Glasgow to meet what should be basic shopping needs. The town has suffered from a lack of investment in recent years, with a number of false starts, and we hope that the delivery of Blar Mhor will give the whole town a real lift.”

Miller Developments is represented by Eric Young & Co.
