Turnstone Estates appointed developer for mixed-use scheme in St Neots, Cambridgeshire

July 30, 2010

Turnstone Estates has been appointed, subject to contract, as the preferred developer by Huntingdonshire District Council for a mixed-use scheme at St Neots, Cambridgeshire, following a rigorous appraisal of bids for the redevelopment of the site.

The scheme, located on a 1.5 acre site, is a short distance from the main retailing area of High Street and close to the junction of Huntingdon Street and Cambridge Street.

The proposed redevelopment scheme for the former fire station site and waste recycling centre at St Neots will now be worked up with the District Council, St Neots Town Council and local businesses, and is anticipated to comprise an 18,000 sq ft multiplex cinema providing 7 screens, restaurant units of between 3,000-4,000 sq ft, totalling 12,000 sq ft and 160 public car parking spaces, with vehicular access from Huntingdon Street.

Chris Goldsmith, Managing Director of Turnstone Estates, comments: “We are delighted at this appointment and looking forward to working with Huntingdonshire District Council and other local stakeholders to deliver this much needed leisure facility for St Neots.”

“We will be working closely with the Councils to create a design which, we are confident, would be hugely beneficial to the town and local residents. Cinema operators and restaurant owners have already expressed their interest in this scheme and we are in discussions with them to ensure that the best names in leisure are brought to St Neots.”

Councillor Ian Bates, Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council, said: “This is an important site for St Neots and the start of a very exciting journey. There is real potential to provide amenities that will be the envy of the District, bringing great benefits to the town centre and residents. “

Turnstone’s letting agents are Januarys, Wareing & Partners and DH Barford & Co. The architect is JWA Architects.
