The South African-originated Spur Steakhouse is set to rustle up a good few sizzling steaks at Metrocentre, Gateshead, catering for the centre’s catchment of 2.6 million people (within 70 minutes drive time).
The family-oriented steakhouse has taken a 3,911 sq ft unit in the lower level Metrocentre Qube, which offers the North East a complete leisure and dining experience and is home to leisure operator, Namco Funspace. Spur will join other food outlets at the unique retail location including Yo! Sushi, Nandos and Pizza Express. The introduction of additional catering offers on the lower level is a direct result of consumer demand; given the scale of Metrocentre, there is further opportunity to increase the catering offer and plans are currently being considered.
Martin Breeden, director of asset management (northern portfolio) at Capital Shopping Centres said: “Metrocentre is the largest covered centre in Europe, and, as this recent letting illustrates, is a very popular restaurant location. Metrocentre Qube is one of the best loved leisure and dining destinations in the country, among operators and shoppers alike, and we are confident that the interest in acquiring space at the centre will continue, as two further units adjacent to the steakhouse are currently under offer.”
