Towards the end of last year, Lakeside and its Toni & Guy salon invited members of the local community to nominate people living with cancer to win a feel-good day of pampering. Two nominees, Lea Lay and Angela Salmon, were selected as a result of hugely persuasive nomination emails: Lea was nominated by her niece, Kirsty, who joined her for the day of pampering; Angela was nominated by her 13 year old daughter, Chloe.
Before the day, both Lea and Angela visited Toni & Guy at Lakeside which is a Strength in Style salon. Working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, the salon provides specialist support and advice on hair care for people affected by cancer. A specially trained stylist – Emma – met with Lea and Angela to help them choose a fibre wig (donated by leading wig specialist Trendco) which was then personalised for them during the pampering day.
On the day (Monday 31st January), both ladies received a style consultation with Lakeside’s personal shopper, which focused on tips for dressing for their particular body shapes and choosing the right colours for their skin tones. Lea really took the advice on board and even took some time out and headed straight to the shops, returning with a new top in precisely the right shade!
Both ladies also received a complementary make-up session with Estee Lauder in House of Fraser (Lea) and bareMinerals in Debenhams (Angela). The results were then photographed by a professional photographer so that the ladies would each have a flattering record of their day.
Kylie Minor, Lakeside’s Acting Marketing Manager, comments: “It was a real pleasure to be able to do our bit for these brave ladies by treating them to a fantastic day out. The day was designed to help them feel good about themselves, as Lakeside is all about feel-good shopping.”
Lea Lay commented, “Everything about today has been amazing. You have all made me feel a lot better. To have won the competition was a lovely surprise.”
Angela Salmon commented, “Today was just fab! Enjoyed every moment; felt very special and loved. The girls were all fantastic, very warm and considerate. Today was just super, super and more super.”
