Krispy Kreme comes to St David’s in Wales after Facebook campaign

February 28, 2011

Premium doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme is to open its first store in Wales, at St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff, after a Facebook campaign by local sweet toothed shoppers calling for them to open in the city.

Hundreds of fans left messages on St David’s own Facebook page asking for the retailer to open in St David’s, making the retailer the most requested brand that Capital Shopping Centres and Land Securities have brought to Cardiff.

Krispy Kreme will open a 1,731 sq ft Coffee Bar on Town Wall, near to Pulp and Foot Asylum, in April.

Joanne Skilton, retail and leasing director of Capital Shopping Centres (CSC), on behalf of St David’s Partnership, the joint venture between CSC and Land Securities said: “We always listen to our customers and take note of the additional brands that they request. Facebook is an increasingly popular social media and we are constantly reviewing customers’ feedback. We are confident that the St David’s store will help to satisfy doughnut-lovers’ appetite for Krispy Kreme in Wales.”

Katie de Souza, Krispy Kreme UK’s head of marketing, said: “Cardiff is a great city and St David’s is a unique and vibrant shopping destination which made it the perfect location for Krispy Kreme. We listen to our customers and have received a lot of requests from people in Wales asking when Krispy Kreme will be coming to them. Cardiff was an obvious next step for us and we’re very excited to be opening there.”

E J Hales, Lunson Mitchenall and Cushman & Wakefield are the letting agents for St David’s. Krispy Kreme was represented by Morgan Williams.
