The Student Housing Company has submitted planning applications for two student accommodation schemes on the south coast of England.
The first application is for a 22-storey scheme in Plymouth which will be home to 507 students from September 2016. Designed by Boyes Rees Architects, the proposal has been developed in close consultation with Plymouth City Council, and accords with a long standing policy desire by the council to locate tall buildings in the city centre to create a skyline that complements the city’s setting on the coast.
The second application is for a 358-bed scheme in Southampton city centre, which, subject to planning, will be also be delivered for September 2016.
Both sites were purchased unconditionally in 2014 and add to The Student Housing Company’s growing South Coast portfolio which already includes operational schemes in Brighton, Bournemouth and another scheme in Plymouth.
The Student Housing Company currently owns and operates 6,337 student beds across the UK including schemes opening this summer in Brighton, Oxford, Huddersfield, Edinburgh and London. With a development pipeline of a further 2,789 beds under construction or in the planning phase, the company is well on course to have over 10,000 beds under control in the UK by the end of 2015.
