Ridgeons Timber and Builders Merchants has appointed Turnstone Estates as development partner at Ashdon Road Commercial Park, a 32 acre brownfield site on the north eastern edge of Saffron Walden. The site has outline planning permission for 167 residential units, a new Ridgeons branch, hotel, restaurant/pub, retail and other commercial/industrial uses.
Angela Rushforth MD of Ridgeons comments, “We are delighted to have appointed Turnstone as development partner in order to progress plans for this site. Originally acquired in the 1980s, we currently occupy part of the site as a ‘hub’ for our builders’ merchants business. Turnstone will be developing the commercial element of the proposed scheme, including a brand new Ridgeons branch, and will be seeking residential partners for the residential part of the site.”
Chris Goldsmith, Managing Director of Turnstone comments, “This is a fantastic site in North West Essex, close to Cambridge and Stansted Airport. We will be looking to facilitate the delivery of bespoke new premises for this thriving regional business and anticipate a great deal of interest in both the other new commercial space and residential plots.”
With outline planning permission granted in November 2014, the development team is now working on the submission of the first Reserved Matters planning application in mid-February 2015. This first application will be for the new Ridgeons branch with further Reserved Matters applications following for both the commercial and residential land parcels.
Januarys advised Ridgeons and has been retained as sales and lettings adviser on the development.
