MOORGARTH CELEBRATES FIRST RETAIL LETTING SINCE ACQUIRING EDINBURGH’S WAVERLEY MALL

May 17, 2017

Asset manager Moorgarth Group has let 1,700 sq ft to fashion retailer Damaged Society at Edinburgh’s Waverley Mall. The Scottish retailer has taken a five-year lease and is the first signing since the new owners acquired the shopping centre in April. The deal underlines Moorgarth’s intent to develop the mall’s tenant mix and create a more urban and contemporary feel.

Damaged Society already has a store at Glasgow’s St Enoch Square and chose Waverley Mall for its Edinburgh debut. It will join an impressive line-up of retailers and leisure operators at the 85,000 sq ft shopping centre, including Superdry, New Look, Warehouse and Flying Tiger Copenhagen.

Waverley Mall, previously known as Princes Mall, boasts a prime position between Edinburgh’s Waverley train station and Princes Street, at the heart of the city’s tourist trail.

The new owners intend to take advantage of the shopping centre’s position at the heart of Edinburgh’s tourist trail to refresh the tenant mix and create a more urban vibe. Following the letting to Damaged Society, Moorgarth is in discussions with a number of other potential retail and food and beverage occupiers.

Moorgarth’s Tim Vaughan said: “We are delighted to have agreed a letting with Damaged Society. It both reflects our ambition to evolve the tenant mix at Waverley Mall and underlines healthy demand from retailers and leisure operators to make this superbly positioned centre their home. We look forward to securing more new names to Waverley Mall and will continue investing to help the centre fulfil its potential.”
