Sovereign Centros has started the development of the eastern end of the 865,000 sq ft St Enoch shopping centre in Glasgow city centre.
The development within the former 76,000 sq ft Bhs store will completely ‘re- anchor’ the centre and provide a vibrant leisure and retail offer cementing its position as Glasgow’s premier shopping and leisure destination..
Comprising a nine-screen 30,000 sq ft. Vue cinema at second floor and nine first floor restaurants, ranging in size between 2,000 sq ft and 5,000 sq ft, it will link into the newly refurbished and immensely popular food court.
The project will be completed by the end of 2019. Leasing discussions with key tenants are at an advanced stage.
The development is good news for the City centre which saw plans for an extension of Buchanan Galleries shopping centre mothballed last year.
St Enoch will benefit from the residential developments in Argyle Street and Barclay’s proposals to occupy a major new office hub, creating 2500 new jobs, opposite the centre on the other side of the Clyde.
Mike Thomas of Sovereign Centros commented: “This is great news for the City. Our exciting plans will substantially improve the centre’s offer, extend dwell times and provide a real focus for eating and leisure “
The building contract has been placed with Sir Robert McAlpine. Leasing agents are Savills and Eric Young.
