Nafield Properties (a joint venture between Turnstone Estates and Burall Developments) has secured a further letting at its recently launched Broers Building, an office and R&D development, which is a part of the Hauser Forum at The West Cambridge Research and Development Park at the University of Cambridge.
Base 4 Innovation, a group of biologists and physicists, has taken an office unit of about 1,500 sq ft on part of the first floor at an initial rent of £30 per sq ft for a five-year lease term.
Base 4 Innovation specializes in molecular biology, single photon detection, and nanotechnology and was previously based at the Cavendish Laboratories, Cambridge.
This is the second deal for Broers Building, after Nokia took 7,717 sq ft for a major research facility in the 42,911sq ft Broers Building. With a further 2,750 sq ft under offer, this leaves 30,944 sq ft space currently available.
Chris Goldsmith of Turnstone comments: “We welcome Base 4 Innovation to the Broers Building, as part of the building’s promise of offering organisations opportunities to form closer partnerships with Cambridge Enterprise, the University’s science and technology commercialisation office and the growing number of academic researchers located at West Cambridge. We also expect other major deals soon as we continue discussions with a number of companies who have strong interest in the very special opportunities the Building offers.”
The Broers Building forms part of a wider development known as the Hauser Forum, which has been developed by Nafield Properties in conjunction with the University of Cambridge. Other elements comprise a central café for the West Cambridge site and a building to house Cambridge Enterprise.
