Dutch retailer HEMA is looking to expand into the UK and has appointed Harper Dennis Hobbs to search for new stores between 1,500 and 6,000 sq ft, with a particular focusonaffluent and vibrant London locations. High streets and shopping centres in and around London will be considered.
The first HEMA store opened in Amsterdam on 4 November 1926 and was set up by the owners of the luxury department store De Bijenkorf. The dream was to make shopper’s every day lives easier and more fun and this is a key part of the present company’s DNA. The retailer is much loved in its native Holland and has a reputation for original and contemporary homeware design and its food and clothing ranges. Product pricing is very competitive.
Tim Newman of HDH comments, “HEMA is a unique retail concept with numerous stores in the Benelux markets and the brand has quickly established itself very successfully in France. The UK is therefore a logical progression for further international expansion.”
